乔纳森斯威夫特（1667-1745），英国启蒙运动激进民主派的创始人，18世纪英国杰出的政论家与讽刺小说家。生于爱尔兰。父亲早在他出生前便已离世，斯威夫特从小由叔叔抚养。15岁时到都柏林大学（三一学院）学习，并获得神学博士学位。虽然他一时间闻名遐迩，晚年的斯威夫特却十分孤独，甚至一步步走到了绝望的边缘。他经历了一切，也看透了一切，这时他写出了世界名著《格列佛游记》。
