本次选编《姜亮夫文存》，是作为清华国学院院史工程的一种，选编思路注重他与清华国学院的关系。这个关系，又分两方面。一是直接与清华国学院相关者，如他在清华的论文，他回忆清华的文章等。二是他的学术之中与他在清华所受教育息息相关者。办法是回到他三四十年代对自己的学术设计，从“语言和古史”这条脉络出发，来选择篇目。这些篇目就学术原创性而言与浙大版《国学丛考》类似，但是楚辞学和敦煌学的比例小，而语言和古史方面的比例大，两书也正好可以互补。更重要的是，希望借此把姜先生的学术设计中更大、更完整的“可能性”表现出来，以启发后来的学人。与一般的学者选本倾向选择被广泛接受的文章相比，《姜亮夫文存》的篇目，或许会给读者以“生新”之感。这是一次大胆的尝试。
