"2014年11月，鳳凰網等單位組織25位元著名法學學者組成評委會，從讀者、線民、學界共同推薦的108本法學圖書中，經過三輪投票，選出了 “1978—2014影響中國法治圖書獎”10本圖書，《論法治》是其中之一。以下是頒獎詞：
《論法治》出版於2008年，擷選李步雲先生三十年（1978—2008）來有關法治問題的文章五十餘篇，無論舊文新章，本書中討論的許多問題，依然屬於中國目前的熱點問題，對在新時期進一步解放思想、推進依法治國有著重要的啟發意義。
從1978年12月，第一次提出“公民在法律上一律平等”，到“黨必須在憲法和法律的範圍內活動”、推動中央文件第一次出現“以法治國”的概念、建議將“公民的基本權利和義務”一章置於“國家機構”章節之前、提出“凡具有中華人民共和國國籍的人都是中華人民共和國公民”、肯定人權具有普遍性以及提出“國家尊重和保障人權”並被採納在憲法修正案中，使《論法治》一書隱含了鮮活的、喧鬧的，或許還有奮爭的、激辯的歷史現場的氣息。"
